History of the Mercedes-AMG One

Development and production

The concept of 2017 had nearly identical specifications to the production version of 2022. Mercedes-AMG said that the production One would be evaluated on its performance, durability and ability at Mercedes-Benz proving grounds and on racing circuits. Development took place at Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach; then head Tobias Moers said that Lewis Hamilton, who worked on the development, would join the team of development drivers testing prototypes when the time was right. Production was limited to 275 units at US$2.72 million, all already sold, and orders exceeded the run more than four times over, but Mercedes-AMG refused to increase it to keep the car exclusive. The first car, delivered on 16 January 2023, had a paint job inspired by the F1 W12 E Performance livery.

Design

The exterior is designed primarily for aerodynamics: movable slats in the front wheelhouses, a two-part extendable rear wing with a DRS system, active flaps on the front diffuser that follow the chosen driving programme, large front air inlets, a roof-mounted air intake and a large fin along the back half of the car, plus aerodynamically optimised wheels, all to generate downforce for high-speed corners. The powertrain is rated at 782 kW (1,063 PS).
