The Deutz D-series (Deutz D-Serie) was a production range of tractors built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG under the Deutz brand between 1959 and 1965. It ran from the small D 15 to the D 80, the first Deutz tractor with a six-cylinder engine, and was succeeded by the D-05 series.

History of the Deutz D-Serie
A range of the late 1950s
The D-series was the tractor range of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz in the years around 1960. The first models were the D 15, D 25 and D 40, and in 1960 the range was joined by the D 30 and the D 50. The German Wikipedia dates the production of the series to the years between 1959 and 1965, and notes that from 1959 the models carried a type designation based on their power output.

The six-cylinder D 80
The last model of the range was the D 80, presented in 1964. It was the first Deutz tractor with a six-cylinder engine and stood at the top of the programme, above the smaller four-cylinder and single-cylinder tractors. The D-series thus covered a broad span, from simple machines for small farms to the most powerful tractor the firm offered at the time.
Variants and Argentine production
On the basis of the basic models, numerous special tractors and variants were developed during the seven years of production. Some models of the D-series were also built in Argentina in the 1960s by DECA Deutz, in parallel with the models of the A-series. The D-series was finally replaced by the D-05 series.
Design and features
- Power-based names: from 1959 the type designation of each model reflected its engine output.
- The first six-cylinder Deutz: the D 80 of 1964 opened a new class for the brand.
- Many versions: special tractors and variants were derived from the basic models.
- Built abroad as well: some D-series models were assembled in Argentina by DECA Deutz.
- Succeeded by the 05 series: the D-05 range took over from the D-series.
Deutz D-Serie versions
- D 15: one of the first models of the range.
- D 25: the second of the initial models.
- D 40: the model with which the D-series was introduced in 1957.
- D 30 and D 50: added to the range in 1960.
- D 80: the six-cylinder top model of 1964.
The later DX range is described in Deutz DX, the single-cylinder best-seller of the 1950s in Deutz F1L 514/51, and the whole brand in Deutz-Fahr. More machines are in the Deutz collection.
