History of the Lamborghini Huracán

Name and engine

The name is Spanish for hurricane and comes from a Spanish fighting bull known for its courage that fought in 1879; Lamborghini has traditionally named its models after fighting bulls. The Huracán keeps the 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 of the facelifted Gallardo, tuned to 610 PS. The engine combines direct and multi-point fuel injection for the first time in a V10, and its firing order, 1-6-5-10-2-7-3-8-4-9, is printed on a metal plate on top of the engine.

Technology

The all-wheel-drive system is electronically controlled and the new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox changes character with the selected mode; no manual was offered. Magnetorheological dampers adapt the suspension quickly, and the car shares components with the second-generation Audi R8. The cabin has electric heated sport seats and one of the first sports-car infotainment systems moved out of the centre stack. The drag coefficient of 0.39 was not disclosed until 2021.

Design and features

  • V10: direct plus multi-point injection.
  • Drive: electronic all-wheel drive.
