History of the Ayats Jupiter
The workshop in the forest
Ayats is the trading name of Carrocerías Ayats SA, a Spain-based coachbuilder. The company was established in 1905 by Juan Ayats in Arbúcies, a village in the Selva county of the province of Girona, Catalonia. The small town had an advantage for bodybuilding: it lies in the middle of a densely forested area — Selva means forest or jungle in Catalan — which was useful while bodyworks were still made of wood. Ayats is one of several coachbuilders based in Arbúcies, alongside Indcar, the oldest of them, Beulas, Noge and Boari.
The Jupiter in the range
The Jupiter is one of the bodies the company lists among its products, together with the Atlantis, Atlas 2, Air256, Bravo, Horizon, Eclipse, Platinum and Olimpia. Ayats does not sell a single vehicle type: the range is made up of coach bodies fitted to a wide variety of chassis, and the company also manufactures integral products of its own.
Across Europe
The company’s products are used throughout Europe. Its better-known Bravo has for many years been the platform for specialist double-deck coaches, including open-top sightseeing buses and sleeper buses, a branch of the business that grew out of the same bodybuilding tradition.
