The Alfa Romeo Montreal is a sports coupé that Alfa Romeo built from 1970 to 1977. It was first shown as a concept car at Expo 67 in Montreal, which gave the car its name. The production car kept the concept’s name and used a 2.6-litre V8. This page covers the key facts, the history, the design and the questions people ask most often.

History

The Montreal was introduced as a concept car in 1967 at Expo 67 in Montreal, Canada. The concept was displayed without a model name, but the public called it “The Montreal”. It was a two-door 2+2 coupé designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone.

The first production car, the Tipo 105.64, was shown at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show. Alfa Romeo kept the name. It was never officially sold in the United States or Canada, because the company chose not to submit it to emissions testing there.

  • A NACA duct on the bonnet, which is blocked off and is there for appearance only.
  • A chassis and running gear shared with the Giulia GTV coupé, with double wishbones at the front and a live rear axle.

Variants

  • Montreal concept (1967): the Expo 67 car, now in the Alfa Romeo museum in Arese.
  • Montreal production car (1970–1977): the car described here, Tipo 105.64.
