History of the Alfa Romeo Brera

The Brera was first unveiled as a concept car at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of Italdesign. The concept had a Maserati V8 rated at around 400 PS, and in 2004 Giugiaro was awarded the Compasso d’Oro industrial design award for the Brera Concept. The name comes from the Brera district of Milan, known as an artistic area.

The production Brera was introduced at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. It translated the concept’s look on a much smaller scale as a grand tourer on the platform shared with the Alfa Romeo 159, designed to replace the outgoing GTV. A convertible called the Spider followed to replace the GTV-based Spider. Updated versions were introduced at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show.
