History

Work on the 146, or Tipo 930B, began in April 1992 as a second car derived from the 145 and sold alongside it. With its more traditional Alfa Romeo style, it was aimed at a different clientele, the buyers of the outgoing 33. The 146 premiered at the Bologna Motor Show in November 1994 and went on sale in May 1995.

The engine line-up at launch was the same as the 145’s, with a 1.9-litre turbo diesel and the boxer petrol engines from the 33 in 1.3, 1.6 and 1.7 litres.
