The Vectrix VX-3 Li+ was a three-wheeled version of the company’s electric maxi-scooter, listed as built from 2013. Its life was short: a French magazine reported later that year that Vectrix appeared to be abandoning the VX-3, and the company ceased operations in 2014.

History of the Vectrix VX-3

Vectrix had been working on a three-wheeled version of its maxi-scooter since at least 2008, when it announced such a machine alongside its two-wheeled range. The production model that emerged was the VX-3 Li+, listed among the company’s products as built from 2013 with a lithium battery.

The VX-3 arrived at a difficult moment. In October 2013 Vectrix lost its French distributor Italmotori after allegations that the company had failed to ship scooters, batteries and parts needed for warranty repairs. A month later a French automotive magazine confirmed that Italmotori was the third distributor to stop representing Vectrix, after Euromotor and Vectrix France, and reported that the company appeared to be abandoning two models, the VX-1 and the VX-3.

Vectrix ceased all US operations in January 2014 and filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in March. The MPTECH group acquired the company’s assets and moved them to Wrocław, Poland, and in June 2015 restarted production of the VX-1 and VX-2 with new batteries and electronics. The VX-3 was not part of that relaunch.

Design and features

  • Three wheels: a three-wheeled layout for the electric maxi-scooter, aimed at stability and a distinctive look.
  • Lithium battery: the model was listed as the VX-3 Li+, using the lithium technology of the later VX-1 versions.
  • Short life: listed as built from 2013 but dropped the same year as Vectrix’s finances collapsed.

Vectrix VX-3 versions

  • VX-3 Li+ (2013): the three-wheeled production model with a lithium battery.

The VX-3 was the three-wheeled member of the family alongside the VX-1 and VX-2; the Vectrix Superbike remained a two-wheeled concept. More electric scooters are in the Vectrix collection.
