What counts as a classic depends on where you live: in the UK cars built over 40 years ago are exempt from annual road tax, and in Germany vehicles registered 30 or more years ago can qualify for an Oldtimer plate. Thinking of buying one? Our guide Buying a classic: what to check first puts the checks in order: paperwork, rust, originality.
