History of the Temsa Tourmalin

2005: a new city bus

The Tourmalin was first shown in 2005 and production began in 2006. It was developed for service and short-distance transport rather than long intercity work, and it was sold mainly in European countries. In 2010 the bus was facelifted: the front grille and headlights and the rear lights were renewed. In 2015 the front grille was revised again, more lightly, and the model went on sale in Turkey.

The 12- and 13-metre versions

The Tourmalin 12, the service version, was 12 metres long and carried 60 to 73 passengers. It used either a 6.7-litre Cummins ISBe6.7 of 293 hp and 1,100 Nm or a 9.2-litre DAF PR six of 314 hp and 1,275 Nm; the DAF-engined version had a six-speed ZF 6S1700 manual gearbox, the Cummins version an Allison T325R or ZF 6HP 594C automatic. The Tourmalin 13 was the long-wheelbase service model at 13 metres with 59 passengers.

The IC models

The Tourmalin IC 12 was intended for short-distance intercity work: 12 metres, 64 to 78 passengers, DAF engines of 314 to 360 hp and 1,275 to 1,450 Nm, a ZF manual gearbox and an optional automatic. The Tourmalin IC 13 was the 13-metre version with 58 passengers.

The Turkish model

A separate version was made for the Turkish market: 12.3 metres long, with room for 85 passengers, a Cummins engine and a ZF automatic gearbox.

In service and the end

Tourmalins worked in Turkish cities including Adana, Bursa, Istanbul, Keban and Van, and also in Austria, France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Poland. In 2015 the model was replaced in European markets by the LD, and in 2019 the same happened in Turkey.
