History of the Someca 615

Someca under Fiat

Someca was created in 1953 by SIMCA, then a subsidiary of Fiat, from the agricultural motors and tractors division of MAP. Its first tractor, the DA 50, was derived from the MAP DR3 and developed 37 hp at 1,500 rpm. The SOM 40 of 1957 became the company’s great success, with 18,741 built by 1964, and more than 40,000 Someca tractors with a Fiat base engine had been made by 1960.

The Diamante series

The 615 is listed in the French Someca range as a Diamante-series model of 1965–1968, alongside the 315 of 1965–1968 and the 715 of 1966–1968. From 1965, when the 15 series was launched, Someca manufactured only licensed Fiat Trattori models, so the 615 belongs to the period when the French range followed Fiat designs directly.

After the 615

Fiat, the majority shareholder since the company’s foundation, integrated Someca into its agricultural subsidiary FiatAgri in 1983. That business became Fiat New Holland in 1993 and is now part of CNH Global. The Someca name disappeared with the move to the unified Fiat-Agri range.

Design and features

  • Diamante series: the 615 belonged to the series that also included the 315 and 715.
  • Fiat licence years: built from 1965, when Someca made only licensed Fiat Trattori models.
  • French production: assembled by SOMECA, the company created by SIMCA in 1953.
  • Short model life: listed for 1965–1968 only, as the range was renewed around Fiat designs.

Someca 615 versions

  • 615 (1965–1968): the Diamante-series model as listed in the French range.
  • 315 (1965–1968): the smaller Diamante-series stablemate.
  • 715 (1966–1968): the larger Diamante-series stablemate.

The 615 came after the early SOM 55 and before the long-running Someca 450 of the Nastro Oro series. More models are in the Someca collection.
