The Someca SOM 50 was one of the earliest tractors from the French manufacturer SOMECA, listed in its range for 1953 and 1954. It came just after the company was formed by SIMCA out of the agricultural tractor division of MAP.

History of the Someca SOM 50
The birth of Someca
Someca was created in 1953 by SIMCA, at that time a subsidiary of Fiat. SIMCA bought the agricultural motors and tractors division of the company MAP and used it as the basis for the new firm, whose full name was Société de Mécanique de la Seine. Someca went on to produce the first tractors to carry its name as well as parts for the last tractors made by MAP.
The early SOM series
The first Someca tractor was the DA 50, closely derived from the MAP DR3 and powered by an engine that developed 37 hp at 1,500 rpm. The SOM 50 followed in the early SOM series and is listed in the French Someca range as a model of 1953–1954, alongside the DA 50 and DA 50 L of 1952–1955. In the 1950s and 1960s some Someca models were offered with either a petrol or a diesel engine.
A company in Fiat hands
By 1960 more than 40,000 Someca tractors using the Fiat base engine had been manufactured. From 1965, when the 15 series was launched, Someca made only licensed Fiat Trattori models. Fiat integrated the company into FiatAgri in 1983, and that business became Fiat New Holland in 1993 and later part of CNH Global.
