History of the Renault TRM 2000
A support truck
The TRM 2000 was presented in March 1981 and built from 1982 to 1990 at an RVI factory in Blainville-sur-Orne in Calvados. Originally 12,000 orders were expected on a base of 1,500 units a year, and by 1994 5,600 were in service. In the French army it replaced the Simca Marmon and Saviem TP3 tactical vehicles.
What it can carry
The truck takes two tonnes of payload, including hard shelters of 10 or 15 feet on the platform, or twelve men. Its gross weight is 6.3 tonnes. It has portal axles with double reduction, a maximum gradient of 50 per cent, a side slope limit of 30 per cent and can ford rivers 80 centimetres deep. The cab is the Club des Quatre design from the Saviem J.
Civilian and later use
The TRM 2000 was also made in civilian form for fire services, EDF and other public bodies, and some examples were taken from army stocks by the gendarmerie and the CRS for public order duties. In 2018 the army launched a renovation programme called RIP for the oldest vehicles of 1982 to 1992, ahead of the Successeur poids lourds programme for 7,000 trucks; 15 were delivered at the beginning of 2020 and 200 were to be refurbished by 2021, mainly for overseas units. A number were given to the Ukrainian armed forces in 2022 after the Russian invasion.
