History of the Radical SR4

The SR4 was the sixth car to come from Radical. It was conceived as a smaller, cheaper companion to the SR3, sharing the same idea of a very light open sports racer, but buyers did not take to it in the same numbers: only 46 were completed before the model was discontinued in 2016.

Two engine options set the SR4 apart from its larger siblings. The 1,164 cc Kawasaki ZZ-R1200 was the first engine fitted to the car, while the 998 cc Honda CBR1000RR was a unique option: seven cars were built with it, and only two still had it in December 2024. No SR4 still carried the Kawasaki engine by the same date.

Design and features

  • Smaller package: a compact sibling to the SR3 for drivers who wanted less car.
  • Honda CBR1000RR engine: a 998 cc four that only seven SR4s received.
  • Kawasaki ZZ-R1200 engine: the original 1,164 cc unit, good for 234 km/h.
  • Rarity: with 46 cars built, the SR4 is one of the least common Radicals.

Radical SR4 versions

  • Kawasaki-engined SR4: the original specification with the 1,164 cc ZZ-R1200.
  • Honda-engined SR4: the 998 cc CBR1000RR option, seven built.
  • Later cars: examples built up to the end of production in 2016.

The SR3 was the bigger brother the SR4 was meant to complement, and the SR8 was the fastest car in the range. More cars are in the Radical collection.
