History of the Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport
The 1200 Sport was a Sport Tourer in the full sense: Moto Guzzi listed panniers, a top box and a tank bag among the accessories, and for riders more interested in the track two power kits were offered. Step 1 consisted of a complete two-into-one-into-two titanium exhaust from Lafranconi, a dedicated control unit, intake trumpets and a carbon canister for oil vapours, while Step 2 added polished intake and exhaust ports and high-compression heads.
Two valves, then four
In 2009 the two-valve engine was replaced by the four-valve version. The two-valve engine gave over 95 hp, 70 kW, at 7,800 rpm and 100 Nm at 6,000 rpm; the four-valve unit claimed about 105 hp at 7,000 rpm and 105 Nm at 6,750 rpm. The declared top speed was over 220 km/h and the dry weight about 230 kg. Both front and rear suspension were adjustable for preload and damping, and the front used a conventional Marzocchi fork with Al-Tin surface treatment on the stanchions.
How it differed from the Breva
The 1200 Sport was distinguished from the Breva by its colour schemes, black and white or red and white for the 2v, grey and white or black and white for the 4v, and red, white and gold for the 4v Sport Corsa, as well as by a two-tone screen, a removable colour-matched single-seat cover and instruments with a white face. The exhaust was different too, with a faux-carbon silencer on the 2v and a triangular stainless steel one on the 4v. The two-valve model without ABS came as standard with Braking SK Wave front discs, and the 2V was fitted with Metzeler tyres.
