Morris Motors was formed in 1919 to take over the assets of William Morris's WRM Motors and continue production of the same vehicles, which were assembled from bought-in components. By 1926 its output accounted for 42 per cent of British car manufacture.
The company merged with the Austin Motor Company in 1952 to form the British Motor Corporation, but the Morris name stayed in use until 1984. Part of its Cowley works is now BMW's Plant Oxford, and the trademark belongs to SAIC.
