As part of the New York International Auto Show in the end of March 2016 The German brand Mercedes-Benz held an official premiere of the new coupe-SUV “GLC Coupe”. The vehicle, built on the basis of the standard GLC model, became the second member of the “coupe SUV’s” family in the line of the manufacturer.
Sloping hood, sleek side glazing design, smooth shape of the roof and compact trunk – the new all-road Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe looks graceful and deliberately dynamic. From all angles the novelty has acquired basic features of the latest brand’s design.
The vehicle is presented in two design versions: “normal” and «AMG Line» (which differs from the “normal” one only by “stylized elements” in the design of the exterior and interior, while from a technical point of view, they are absolutely identical).
Overall length of the “coupe” version of the GLC model is 4730 mm, the width equals 1890 mm and its height fits into 1,600 mm. The distance between the wheels counts 2870 mm and its ground clearance is dependent on the type of suspension.
Inside GLC Coupe instantaneously identifies as belonging to Mercedes-Benz brand – recognizable design, luxurious finishing materials and the highest workmanship. A colorful combination of devices with two “pipes” and a large beautiful and informative color display, the three-spoke steering wheel is good-looking and carries highly functional load. The center console is executed in a minimalist style with three “nozzles” of ventilation deflectors and narrow “stripes” of audio system plus air conditioning system, while the bulk of the information is placed in the extended “tablet” of multimedia center.
Depending on the modification, the novelty makes its starting “leap” up to 100 km / h in 7.3-8.3 seconds and reaches 210-222 km / h as the “maximum speed”. Diesel versions “eat” no more than 5 liters of fuel in a “city / highway” cycle and gasoline – 7 liters.
The coupe shaped “GLC” is built on the basis of MRA modular platform with a longitudinally-mounted engine and integral body, almost 60% made of steel of medium hardness and high-strength steels (13% is for aluminum).
By default the car is equipped with sports chassis with a two-lever layout in front and multi-link in the rear and optionally – adaptive or pneumatic suspension. “Sharpened” steering SUV is supplemented with electromechanical power and all-wheel ventilated disc brakes and an array of modern “helpers.”
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe will appear on the market in autumn 2016. Prices for the novelty have not yet announced. The standard coupe crossover will include seven airbags, a complex of modern security systems, dual-zone “climate”, multimedia center, audio system, cruise control system, full power accessories and a variety of other useful “widgets.”
