2nd generation Mazda CX-9 – is a big crossover in a new car body which was first presented to public at Los Angeles Motor show in November 2015. The novelty came to replace its predecessor released back in 2006.
From the outside, new Mazda CX-9 (2016) has totally retained recognizable appearance of the predecessor, but the final look of the model is more swift and graceful. The design of the new crossover is executed in the current corporate style “KODO“, like all the other “fresh” Mazda models.
Unlike the predecessor, Mazda CX-9 has received a new body with narrow rear lights, increased spoiler, bending under-window line in the back pillars, as well as restyled front end with a more aggressive front bumper, different grille and some other head optics.
The vehicle interior has undergone a greater revision than the exterior. The novelty got an entirely new front panel, completely different steering wheel, instrument panel with three wells, and the screen entertainment system is now “retractable”. Finishing materials have also been significantly improved, center console – redesigned as well as its dashboard and door cards.
The manufacturer notes that 24 kg of sound-proof materials were used in the production of the new generation Mazda CX-9, as a result the insulation at the speed of 100 km / h has improved by 12%. Not least of all thanks to the use of thicker windshields. Rear sofa is designed in such a way that you can easily get to the third-row seats.
The basis of the new Mazda CX-9 is a little bit stretched chassis from Mazda 6 with McPherson type front suspension and rear “multi-lever”. The crossover will be available with both front and all-wheel drive. In the latter case up to 50% of torque may be shifted to the rear axle via electronically regulated multiplate clutch.
Overall length of Mazda CX-9 of the second generation has shrunk to 5056 mm (minus 30 mm), and the wheelbase on the contrary has grown by 55 mm – up to 1 930 mm. Due to increased use of high-strength steel in the construction the weight of the crossover has reduced by 90 kg (in case of front-wheel drive and by 130 – for AWD).
Under the hood of the car hidden the latest 2.5-liter turbo engine Skyactiv-G 2.5T with direct fuel injection. It produces 254 hp and 420 Nm of torque and goes in tandem with uncontested six-band automatic transmission.
Production of the new Mazda CX-9 will be established at the enterprise in Hiroshima that has carried production of its predecessor. Up to 80% of the cars will be delivered for sale to the US, where its sales will start in spring 2016.
The new crossover will be available in seven options of paint finishes, wheel diameter from 18 to 20 inches, LED head optics, Mazda Connect multimedia system with 8.0-inch touch screen, Bose audio system with 12-speaker, as well as complex i-Activsense security systems. The structure of the last includes adaptive cruise control with automatic braking, tracking system for movement and “blind” areas, automatic switching on and off of the drving beam and so on.
