History of the MAZ-5337
Chassis first
The MAZ-5337 chassis was built from 1986 with a day cab and the YaMZ-236 of 180 hp. In 1987 the flat lorry MAZ-53371 followed with the same engine, offered with a day cab or with a sleeper cab as the MAZ-53371-029, together with the MAZ-5433 tractor unit. There was also a northern version for temperatures down to −60 °C, the MAZ-533701. In 1987 to 1990 the MAZ-5337 and the MAZ-5335 were built at the plant at the same time.
Engines and names
From 2002 the family used the YaMZ-236NE turbo diesel of 230 hp to Euro-1, and from 2006 the YaMZ-236NE2 of the same power to Euro-2. These machines carried new designations: the chassis became the MAZ-533702, the tractor unit the MAZ-543302 and the tipper the MAZ-555102.
Cab and platform
From 1998 the lorry was built with an updated cab and radiator grille that gave access to the service points of the whole front panel. In 2008 the MAZ-5337 was modernised again with the YaMZ-6563.10 Euro-3 engine of 230 hp, and the designations changed to MAZ-5337A2 for the chassis and flat lorry, MAZ-5433A2 for the tractor unit and MAZ-5551A2 for the tipper. The cab seats two and has no sleeping place in the standard form, although a sleeper version was offered. It tilts forward on a hydraulic cylinder with a hand pump, and the driver’s seat is sprung and adjustable for length, height and the angle of the cushion and backrest. The body is a metal platform with wooden floors, and bare chassis are offered for other bodies and equipment.
On other people’s bodies
The MAZ-5337 chassis is used for tankers, vans, mobile cranes, excavators, lorries and fire engines, among other things.
