History of the Honda Wave

Successor to the Cub

The Wave series succeeds the Super Cub, which used a pressed-steel frame acting as both the structural chassis and the cosmetic bodywork. The Wave instead uses separate plastic body panels over a structural steel tube chassis, and serves as the Southeast Asian model of the historic Honda Cub.

Engines

The Wave is available with three displacements: 100, 110 and 125 cc. The 100 and 110 cc engines are physically similar in size to the Cub engine and share its mountings, while the 125 cc models use a larger engine that is incompatible with the Cub and 100/110 mountings. Besides the three carburettor models, Honda has produced fuel-injected versions since 2008 for the 110 and 125 cc models; the 100 cc model was discontinued in 2008 except in Laos, where it was still produced and sold in 2020.

Updates and regional names

In 2006 the Wave received a facelift, and the 125 cc model gained a key slot cover for better protection against theft. From 2007 the Innova 125 in Europe began using fuel injection instead of carburettors. In Indonesia the 110 cc model is marketed as the Honda Revo, which arrived in 2008 in place of the previous 100 cc Supra Fit; a sporty Honda Blade was launched alongside the Revo 110 but was discontinued in 2019 because of low demand.
