History of the Honda CRF150R

A four-stroke in an 85 cc class

The CRF150R was released in 2006 for the 2007 model year. It competes in the Mini Class against many 85 cc two-stroke bikes, but the rules keep it out of the 85 cc modified and stock classes; it has to race in the Supermini class. All of Honda’s 2008 models were four-strokes, whereas in earlier years some racing bikes were two-strokes.

Engine and chassis

The CRF150R uses a Unicam four-valve liquid-cooled engine that produces power over a wide rpm range, and weighs 185 pounds wet. It has fully adjustable Showa suspension, Dunlop tyres and disc brakes at both ends.

Standard and Expert

The CRF150R comes in two versions, the regular and the Expert. The Expert costs $100 more and adds features for larger riders: a taller seat height, higher ground clearance, a longer wheelbase, larger tyres, a longer swingarm and a larger rear sprocket for better acceleration with a heavier rider. These add 4 pounds. The model is called the CRF150RB, with R for Race and B for Big wheel.

Design and features

  • Unicam four-valve engine: wide power band from a 150 cc four-stroke.
  • Showa suspension: fully adjustable at both ends.
  • Disc brakes: front and rear on a small motocross bike.
  • Expert big-wheel version: a taller, longer bike for larger riders.

Honda CRF150R versions

  • CRF150R: the standard racing model.
  • CRF150RB Expert: bigger wheels, longer swingarm and more ground clearance.
  • Big-wheel conversions: the Expert package adding 4 pounds.

The CRF150R is the small racing four-stroke in the CRF series, below the CRF450R. More Hondas are in the Honda collection.
