The GAZ-3310 Valdai is a medium-duty flatbed truck built by the Gorky Automobile Plant (GAZ) from late 2004 until December 2015. It sat between the GAZelle van and the GAZ-3307 in size, with a 4-tonne payload in its main version. A new generation, the Valdai NEXT, appeared in 2020. This page covers the key figures, the history, the variants and the questions people ask most often.

History

The truck was developed in the 1990s. Its chassis, suspension and axles came from the GAZ-3307, and its cab came from the GAZelle van, but with a larger grille and an extra boarding step. The first generation, from 2003–04, used the Russian MMZ D-245 diesel. From 2010 the trucks received imported Cummins engines.

In late December 2015 the last Valdai left the line. It was replaced by the GAZon NEXT City, a 5-tonne city truck with a low loading height. The Valdai NEXT, launched in 2020, carried the name forward on a new platform.

Design and features

  • A medium-class flatbed with a single or extended cab. The cab seats three people, or six in the double-cab version.
  • Category C driving licence required, unlike the lighter GAZelle.
  • Two chassis options: standard 3,310 mm and extended 4,000 mm wheelbase.
  • Steering by ZF Friedrichshafen; engines designed for up to 500,000 km from 2010.

Variants

  • GAZ-33104: the main version with the MMZ D-245.7E-3 diesel and 4-tonne payload.
  • GAZ-33106: version with a Cummins ISF engine.
  • Valdai NEXT (2020): the new generation, with chassis and axles partly taken from the earlier model.
