The Ford 3000 was introduced in the spring of 1965 as part of Ford’s Thousand Series. It was built on an entirely new platform designed to replace the Hundred Series tractors made from 1955 to 1964, and it was sold with a choice of petrol or diesel three-cylinder engines.

History of the Ford 3000
A ground-up replacement
The Ford 3000 was not a development of an earlier model but part of a completely new platform, the Thousand Series, that replaced the Hundred Series built from 1955 through 1964. It was introduced in the spring of 1965 and sat in the middle of the range, with a three-cylinder overhead-valve engine cooled by water.

Engines and transmissions
Buyers could order the tractor with a Ford-built 158-cubic-inch (2,590 cc) petrol engine or a 175-cubic-inch (2,870 cc) diesel, both rated at 35 horsepower at the PTO. Four transmissions were offered: a four-speed, a six-speed (three speeds with high and low), an eight-speed (four speeds with high and low) and the ten-speed Select-O-Speed power shift.
Equipment
The 3000 could be specified with a differential lock, power steering, Live PTO and remote hydraulic valves. Standard front wheels were 5.5 x 16, and there were two rear wheel options, 13.6 x 28 or 14.9 x 24. The tractor became one of the most common machines of its size in Europe and North America, and examples are still used on small farms and sold as collectors’ items.
Design and features
- Thousand Series platform: an all-new design rather than a reworked Hundred Series tractor.
- Three-cylinder engine: petrol or diesel, 35 hp at the PTO.
- Four gearboxes: from a four-speed to the ten-speed Select-O-Speed power shift.
- Working options: differential lock, power steering, Live PTO and remote hydraulics.

Ford 3000 versions
- Petrol 3000: 158 cu in engine.
- Diesel 3000: 175 cu in engine.
- Select-O-Speed version: ten-speed power-shift transmission.
- Row-crop and utility builds: differing rear wheel sizes, 13.6 x 28 or 14.9 x 24.
The 3000 sat between the smaller N-series tractors that came before it and the heavier farm tractors of the 1970s. More Ford vehicles are in the Ford collection.
