History of the Ferrari F10

The F10 was the 56th single-seater Ferrari built to compete in Formula One, launched in Maranello and online on 28 January 2010. Felipe Massa was due to give the car its first shakedown the same day at Fiorano, but bad weather postponed it, and the conditions did not improve, so the car first ran at the group test at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia on 1 February. On 20 February Fernando Alonso declared that the F10 was the best car he had ever driven and that its true pace was being hidden from rivals.

Livery controversy

Before the Spanish Grand Prix Ferrari changed the livery on the F10’s engine cover after the team was accused of promoting Marlboro cigarettes with the previous design. Ferrari deleted the barcode and replaced it with a white rectangle on a red background. At the Turkish Grand Prix the team celebrated its 800th Grand Prix, and the cars carried a logo marking the achievement on their engine covers.

The F10 proved immediately more competitive than its predecessor, with Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso qualifying second and third at the opening round of the season. Ferrari’s driver line-up of Alonso and Massa began the 2010 campaign with the car described by Alonso as the best he had driven, and the team developed it through the year.

Design and features

  • New driver line-up: Fernando Alonso joined Felipe Massa at Ferrari for 2010.
  • Immediate pace: second and third on the grid at the opening race.
  • Livery revision: the barcode design on the engine cover was replaced before Spain.
  • 800th Grand Prix: Ferrari marked the milestone at the Turkish Grand Prix.

Ferrari F10 versions
