History of the Callaway Camaro
A company built on GM cars
Callaway Cars Inc. is an American specialty vehicle manufacturer and engineering company that designs, develops and manufactures high-performance packages for cars, pickup trucks and SUVs. It specialises in Corvettes and other General Motors vehicles, and the Camaro is the second passenger car in its current programme.
How a Callaway is made
New GM vehicles are delivered to Callaway facilities, where the special packages and components are installed. The finished cars then go to GM new car dealers, where they are sold to retail customers branded as Callaway. The Camaro follows the same route as the Corvette-based cars.
Packages offered
The current Camaro programme is listed as two packages, the SC630 and the SC750. They sit alongside the Corvette SC757 and SC627, the Cadillac-based CTS-V SC740 and the Callaway packages for the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL, Escalade and Escalade ESV.
Design and features
- GM base car: a new Camaro, prepared rather than rebuilt.
- Two packages: SC630 and SC750.
- Callaway branding: sold new through GM dealers as a Callaway.
- Factory network: work carried out at Callaway facilities in Connecticut, California and Germany.
Callaway Camaro versions
- Callaway Camaro SC630: the first of the two current packages.
- Callaway Camaro SC750: the more powerful of the two current packages.
- Other Callaway GM packages: the same programme covers the Corvette, the Cadillac CTS-V and the large SUVs.
The best-known Callaway is the Callaway Corvette; the company also built the C16 and races the C7R. More cars are in the Callaway collection.
