History of the Callaway C16
A numbered series
Callaway tends to refer to each project with a C followed by a project number. The series runs from the C1 turbocharger kits of the late 1970s through the C3 Alfa Romeo and C4 Corvette conversions, and the German Wikipedia article tabulates 22 projects in all; the C16 takes its place in that list.
From tuning to car making
Reeves Callaway founded the company in 1976 in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where it worked first as a tuning business. The production of automobiles under the Callaway name began in 1984, and a collaboration with a German engineering company in process and mechanical engineering followed.
