History of the Alvis Tactica
The Tactica was never an armed military vehicle and is also suited to civilian use, namely by police forces. Ideally suited as an armoured personnel carrier, the first Tacticas were based on the Stonefield chassis and later on the Mol chassis designed in-house at Glover Webb Limited of Hamble, Hampshire. Variants included ambulances, APCs, water cannons, crowd control, perimeter control and IEDD vehicles.

Variants are in service with the Argentine Army (10 deployed with the UN peacekeeping force in Cyprus), Ghana, Indonesia (12 with the police), Mauritius (14 with the military), Norway (three as ambulances), Saudi Arabia (National Guard and Ministry of Interior) and Ukraine; the British Army used them from 1993 in Northern Ireland until they were all retired.
