History of the Alpina-tuned BMW 2002 tii
The base is a 1973 BMW 2002 tii coupé that had previously been upgraded by Alpina. Manhart Performance, a tuning firm in Wuppertal working under its Manhart Classic Cars programme, restored the car completely and raised the output of the 2.0-litre M10 engine with Kugelfischer mechanical injection from the stock 130 hp to 200 hp, and the torque from 178 to 215 N·m. The car weighs about one tonne.

The engine uses a K&N air filter, an Alpina throttle body and intake manifold and a new Manhart exhaust manifold. The five-speed manual gearbox and the disc brakes come from the BMW 323i (E21). The suspension was modified by Alpina and fitted with Raab Classics struts from KW and a Wiechers strut brace, and the track was widened; wheel-arch extensions that the article nicknames “pig cheeks” cover the wider wheels. Behind the front seats sits an Alpina Clubsport tubular roll cage, while the rear seat was kept.
The car is painted BMW Agave Green with Alpina stripe decals. In the interior the Scheel sport seats were re-trimmed in blue-green, and the three-spoke steering wheel, shift lever and mats carry Alpina logos. The original instruments were kept; there is no audio system, the windows are manual and there is no right-hand mirror.
