History of the Valtra A series

The entry range

Valtra builds four ranges of tractors, and from smallest to largest they are the A series, the N series, the T series and the S series. The A models are therefore the entry point to the programme, the tractors of the smallest power class. The name Valtra itself dates from 2001, when the Finnish maker’s tractors stopped being sold as Valmets; since 2004 the company has belonged to the American AGCO Corporation, and the tractors are built at Suolahti in central Finland.

Models in 2015

The 2015 range began with the 50 hp A53, which produced 196 Nm of torque, and continued through the A63 with 68 hp and 285 Nm and the A73 with 78 hp and 310 Nm. The two largest models, the A83 HiTech with 88 hp and 325 Nm and the A93 HiTech with 101 hp and 370 Nm, were the ones offered with the HiTech transmission. Their hydraulics are mechanically controlled and deliver up to 73 litres a minute, or 90 litres with the optional pump.

Place in the market

The A series was part of a range with a strong home market: Valtra has been the best-selling tractor brand in Finland since the early 1970s, and the most popular in Scandinavia since it took over Volvo BM’s tractor operations in the early 1980s. The company’s tractors are sold in about 75 countries, with the Nordic countries, Brazil and the rest of South America among its strongest markets.
