The Sachs E belongs to the electric side of the Sachs range. Alongside its petrol models, the Nuremberg company Sachs Fahrzeug- und Motorentechnik worked on several series of single-track electric vehicles, and the ELO-Bike Touring brought the brand awards in 2002 and 2005.

History of the Sachs E
Electric two-wheelers at Sachs
Sachs Bikes was formed in 1995, when the Mannesmann-owned Fichtel & Sachs kept its motorcycle production in Nuremberg and sold the Hercules brand and its bicycles. Beside the well-known models with combustion engines, the company worked on several series of single-track electric vehicles. The ELO-Bike Touring was named test winner at the IFMA in Cologne in 2002, and in 2005 Sachs Bikes received the environment prize of the city of Nuremberg.
The difficult years
Sachs Bikes filed for insolvency in June 2006. A management buyout took over on 1 January 2007 with the aim of concentrating on scooters, and in 2008, when the proceedings were closed, the firm was renamed SFM GmbH. The electric work of the earlier years belongs to the period before that break.
Where the model fits
The German article on the company lists its petrol models by name, from the XTC and ZX/ZZ 125 to the MadAss, Speedjet and Quattrocento, and describes the electric programme separately. The Sachs E sits in that electric chapter: a name from the company’s two-wheeler range rather than from its sports or scooter lines.

- Beside the petrol range: the electric models were developed alongside the combustion-engined machines.
