History of the Roehr eSuperbike

Roehr Motorcycle Company was a small manufacturer based in Gurnee, Illinois, which had been working on its own motorcycles since the mid-1990s and had put the supercharged V-Roehr into limited production in 2007. In 2009 it added a pair of electric sport bikes to the range. Both were built on the chassis of the Hyosung GT250: Roehr wanted to design his own frame, but adapting the Korean machine saved the company about US$15,000.

The two models were separated mainly by their drive. The eSuperbike carried two electric motors producing the equivalent of 96 hp, twice the output of the single-motor eSupersport, and a battery pack made up of 240 individual cells against the 180 cells of its stablemate. Roehr quoted a range of between 70 and 100 miles. The eSuperbike was priced at US$27,595, while the eSupersport cost US$16,965.

Neither bike found buyers. With no sales, Roehr stopped production of all its motorcycles in 2012, and the company closed.

  • Hyosung chassis: a GT250 frame adapted instead of a purpose-built one, saving about US$15,000.
  • Silent sport bike: electric drive in a conventional 250 cc sport bike package.
