The JMC Baodian is the nameplate Jiangling Motors has used for its entry-level pickup trucks since 1993. The original truck was a rebadged Isuzu Faster built through a joint venture with Isuzu, and the line has continued through three generations, with the latest introduced in 2025.

History of the JMC Baodian
First generation (1993–2016)

The Baodian began as a rebadged Isuzu Faster, the mid-size pickup also known as the Rodeo or TF. JMC started manufacturing that platform through a joint venture with Isuzu in 1993, and the truck stayed in production for more than two decades. In its final form the first-generation Baodian used the JX493ZLQ4F engine, which produced 109 hp (81 kW) and 245 N·m of torque, with a five-speed manual gearbox as the only transmission. The model was exported to Asian, South American and African markets as the JMC Boarding.
Second generation (2020–2023)
The second-generation Baodian, launched in August 2020, was a rebadged JMC Yuhu positioned below the Yuhu itself and intended to replace the ageing original pickup. It was offered with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, a 2.5-litre turbodiesel or a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and up to sixteen trim levels. In January 2023 the Yuhu-based Baodian received a facelift for the 2023 model year with revised styling, while the engines stayed the same.
Third generation (2025–)
The third-generation Baodian, presented in March 2025, is the first independent model of the line with an all-new design rather than a version of another JMC truck. It is available as a long-wheelbase model. The earlier powertrains were carried over, with an additional 2.5-litre turbodiesel producing 118 kW (158 hp) and 410 N·m, paired with either a five-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Design and features
- Isuzu roots: the original truck was a licensed version of the Isuzu Faster, a proven mid-size pickup platform.
- Long life: the first generation remained on sale from 1993 to 2016, more than twenty years.
- Simple mechanicals: a 109 hp diesel and a five-speed manual were the only choice in the last years of the first generation.
- Export name: outside China the truck was sold as the JMC Boarding.
- Renewal: the second generation borrowed the JMC Yuhu and the third was designed from scratch.
JMC Baodian versions
- First-generation Baodian (1993–2016): rebadged Isuzu Faster with the JX493ZLQ4F diesel.
- JMC Boarding: the export version for Asian, South American and African markets.
- Second-generation Baodian (2020–2023): rebadged JMC Yuhu with 2.5 diesel or 1.8 petrol turbo engines.
- 2023 facelift: styling update for the second generation, powertrains unchanged.
- Third-generation Baodian (2025–): independent design, long wheelbase, up to 410 N·m.
The Baodian shares its platform story with the Landwind X6, which was also derived from Isuzu technology. JMC’s light truck line is described in the JMC Kaiyun article, and more vehicles are in the JMC collection.
