History of the Jösse Car Indigo 3000
The only Jösse Car
The Indigo 3000 was the single model built by Jösse Car, a small Swedish maker that produced the car from 1996 to 2000. It was styled by Hans Philip Zackau, a designer who had also worked on the Volvo 850. When the company folded, the Indigo remained its only car, and 44 working examples had been made.
A Volvo underneath
The car was a two-seat roadster with rear-wheel drive, powered by a 3.0-litre, all-aluminium Volvo straight-six. The engine drove through a Volvo 960 gearbox, and the factory claimed 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The body was made of composite panels attached to a space frame, and the chassis mixed the maker’s own ideas with proven Volvo parts: the front suspension was of Jösse Car’s own design, while the rear unit came from Volvo and used a composite transverse spring.
Borrowed parts and a low price
More components were taken from large-series Swedish cars: the fuel tank came from the Saab 900, the seat bases from the Volvo S40, the steering column from the Volvo 850 and the rear suspension from the Volvo 960. The Indigo 3000 was marketed as an affordable sports car, and it first retailed for 250,000 SEK without options.
