The GG Quadster is a motorised four-wheeler, or quadricycle, built around a BMW R1150 motorcycle. The Swiss manufacturer Grüter + Gut Motorradtechnik (GG) keeps the bike’s inline-four engine, reworks the suspension and steering and adds two more wheels. It has been made since 2008, following an earlier version called the GG Quad.

History of the GG Quadster

From motorcycle to quadricycle

The Quadster starts as a BMW R1150 motorcycle. Grüter + Gut Motorradtechnik keeps the BMW inline-four engine, which produces 167 horsepower, but replaces the bike’s suspension and steering with its own arrangement and fits additional wheels, so the machine becomes a four-wheeler. In Germany a machine of this kind can be licensed as a four-wheel motor-bike rather than as a car.

The GG Quad and the Quadster

The Quadster was not the company’s first four-wheeler: an earlier version was called the GG Quad, and the Quadster has been built since 2008. The layout has limits in some markets — in California it was not approved by regulators. The design is similar to the Quadrazuma bike produced around 2006 by the French company Ludovic Lazareth.

Design and features

  • BMW R1150 engine: the Quadster uses the motorcycle’s inline-four, rated at 167 hp.
  • Four wheels: reworked suspension and steering plus additional wheels turn the bike into a quadricycle.
  • Motor-bike registration: in Germany the Quadster can be licensed as a four-wheel motor-bike.
  • Swiss small-series production: built by Grüter + Gut Motorradtechnik (GG) since 2008.

GG Quadster versions

  • GG Quadster (since 2008): the model described here, built on the BMW R1150.
  • GG Quad: the earlier version made before the Quadster.
  • German specification: registered as a four-wheel motor-bike.
  • California: the Quadster was not approved by regulators there.

This is the only GG model in the collection so far; more machines are listed in the GG collection.
