The Fantic 50 GT was the road model of the company’s moped catalogue in the 1970s. Where the Caballero was styled for regularità and the Chopper copied the American choppers, the GT was a plain street moped with a four-speed gearbox.

History of the Fantic GT
A street model in a scrambler catalogue
Fantic’s moped production of the early 1970s was built around the Caballero, a machine with a regularità set-up, and the Chopper, which copied the stance of American motorcycles. The same catalogue also contained a road model, the 50 GT, offered in a normal version and in a registered version with an unrestricted engine. It had a four-speed gearbox, like the original Super Rocket with small wheels, the other unusual model of the range.
The short life of the moped boom
These small machines were sold at the time of the “sixteener laws” in Britain, which pushed makers to export light mopeds of under 50 cc to that market; Fantic’s mopeds, with their Minarelli engines, were among the fastest of the kind. The market for such mopeds lasted only a handful of years, and the company moved on to the enduro-oriented TX series and, in 1982, to the Strada 125.
