History of the Dadi Smoothing

Dadi Auto was a pickup truck and heavy-duty truck manufacturer headquartered in Baoding. It had started as a military automobile maker, and Baoding Dadi assembled its first civil pickup in 1988. Its product line-up mirrored that of Great Wall Motor and Zhongxing, and the company claimed a production capacity of 50,000 units per year, a figure that may have conflated engines with whole vehicles.

The Smoothing joined the range in 2006 and stayed in production until 2012. It shared its Isuzu Rodeo basis with two other Dadi pickups, the Bliss and the Courtly, while the later Unisonous used the Isuzu D-MAX instead. The company also built SUVs on Toyota Land Cruiser platforms, so the range covered both of the Japanese light-truck families that Chinese makers of the period relied on.

In November 2011 the Chinese conglomerate CHTC acquired Dadi and reincorporated it on 16 October 2012 as Hengtian (CHTC) Dadi Automobile Co., Ltd. The company then stopped manufacturing passenger cars and focused on the commercial vehicle market, which ended the Smoothing’s line of work.

Design and features

  • Isuzu Rodeo basis: the Smoothing used the same platform as the Bliss and the Courtly pickups.
  • Workhorse role: a light commercial pickup from a maker that had begun with military vehicles.
  • Shared range strategy: the model sat in a line-up that followed Great Wall Motor and Zhongxing.

Dadi Smoothing versions

  • Smoothing (2006–2012): the only version listed for the model, sold throughout its production life.

The SUV of the range was the Dadi Shuttle. More vehicles from the same maker are in the Dadi collection.
