History of the Chery QQ6

A saloon for the QQ family

The QQ6 joined the Chery range in 2006 and was designed to appeal to younger buyers with its rounded body; the interior was laid out for comfort on long journeys. Unlike the original QQ, it sat on a platform Chery developed itself, and it was a four-door car with a proper boot. Chery discontinued it in 2010, when a facelifted version took over as the Cowin 1, staying on sale until 2013.

Engines

Two four-cylinder petrol engines were offered, both with four valves per cylinder: a 1,083 cc unit of 50 kW (68 PS; 67 hp) and a 1,297 cc unit of 61 kW (83 PS; 82 hp) with double overhead camshafts.

Outside China

The QQ6 was launched in Chile, Colombia and the other Andean countries in November 2006, where it kept its factory designation except in Chile, where it was sold as the S21 with the 1.1-litre SQR472F engine. It was also assembled in Egypt as the Speranza A213 and sold in Ukraine as the Chery Jaggi.

Design and features

  • Own platform: unlike the original QQ, the QQ6 used a chassis developed by Chery.
  • Rounded styling: a shape aimed at younger buyers.
  • Two engines: 1.1 and 1.3-litre units of 67 and 82 hp.
  • Poor crash result: only two stars in China-NCAP.
