History of the Aprilia Sportcity
First series, 2004–2006

The first Sportcity was built from June 2004 to March 2006 in 125 and 200 cc versions. Its power came from the four-stroke Piaggio Leader engine inherited from the Beverly, with liquid cooling and four valves, producing 15 hp in the 125 and 22 hp in the 200. It had a multifunction display showing the time, fuel level, engine temperature, trip and total distance and battery voltage.
Second series, 2006–2008
From March 2006, to meet the Euro 3 emissions rules, the Sportcity had a slight restyle and a new 250 cc electronically injected engine, the Piaggio Quasar. The 200 fell from 21 hp to 18.5, while the 250 gave 22.5 hp. The exhaust silencer changed to the one Piaggio fits on the Beverly and Carnaby, and the under-seat compartment and tank grew, so that the compartment fits any helmet except full-face ones and the tank holds over 9 litres. The big new feature of the 250ie was a bigger brake system: double 260 mm discs with two-piston calipers at the front.
2008 range: Sportcity Cube and One
On 4 June 2008 Aprilia presented the new range. The Sportcity One is a more compact scooter with 50 cc engines (a HyPer2 two-stroke and a Hyper4 four-stroke) and a 125 cc Piaggio Leader air-cooled four-stroke with a carburettor. The classic Sportcity was restyled and renamed Sportcity Cube, and received the new Piaggio 300ie engine of 278 cc in place of the 250. In 2009 the Sportcity 50 Street was added.
Derbi Rambla
The Derbi Rambla is a case of badge engineering: a Sportcity with a different front mask and logos, since Derbi and Aprilia both belong to the Piaggio group.
